Girls Hoops (Travel) League
Brownsburg Girls Hoops is a competitive travel program governed by BJBL (Brownsburg Junior
Basketball League). These teams are school based which means, players must reside in the
Brownsburg school district or attend a school within the Brownsburg school district.
It is our goal to place girls on a competitive team based on their skill level. We plan to field 2
teams per grade level (depending on # of girls and skill level, a 3rd team may be considered). In
the unfortunate event this cannot be accommodated due to various factors, ‘cuts’ may be
necessary. A league official will contact you within a week regarding selection status.
The Girls Hoops program is available for players in 3rd grade through 8th grade. However,
evaluations will be open to 2nd graders. One 2nd grade team will be selected only if the
evaluators feel they are ready for this level of play. The 2nd grade team would be placed in a
3rd grade division since many leagues do not offer 2nd grade divisions.
Practices will begin the week of August 14th. Each team will practice 2 times a week for 1 ½ hours.
The Girls Hoops league will consist of participation in a Saturday league (likely at Jonathon Byrd
Fieldhouse in Westfield) and a Fall and Winter Sunday league through IGHL.
• Saturday League (JBF) game times will vary throughout the day. These are typically
single games every Saturday but can be double headers depending on the schedule.
Season dates TBD.
• IGHL Sunday game times start no earlier than Noon with the latest game starting at
5:30pm. The IGHL regular season games rotate every other Sunday. Fall Season will run
from September 10th through November 12th. Winter season will run from December 3rd through mid February for 3rd through 6th grade. The 7th & 8th grade winter season is a short, 4 week season into December.
Please bookmark the following IGHL website, it will have weekly game times and location. It will be your responsibility to view for game schedules and the latest changes. www.indygirlshoops.com
Expenses for each child are approximately; 2nd - 6th Graders: $150 and 7th - 8th Graders: $125 (for both the fall and winter leagues) without the uniform. Uniforms will need to be purchased at Team Sports in Brownsburg. Uniform styles will not be changed from year to year and can be used for several years (until a new size is needed).

All Brownsburg players and parents are expected to treat coaches, officials, teammates, and opposing players with respect. We have a wonderful group of parents in Brownsburg, so no lengthy explanation is needed. Everyone gets excited watching their daughter play and sometimes emotions can get out of control. Please remember that you represent not only yourself, but your daughter, your team, and your community. As the saying goes ‘Let the coaches coach. Let the players play. Let the officials officiate, and let the parents be positive!’
All players are expected to make a commitment to be at practices and games. We understand that there are school functions, illnesses, family emergencies, etc that sometimes make this difficult. This is a competitive travel league and as such, it is unfair to the rest of the team for individual players to routinely miss practice, and thus make it difficult for the team to progress. All absences need to be communicated to the coach ASAP. Also it is BJBL policy that two adults be present at practice, please be available to stay at practice to support this policy if needed. Doors are set up to unlock 15 minutes prior to your start time and will remain unlocked for 15 minutes after your practice begins. Do NOT prop doors open!
Coaches will be positive and demonstrate good sportsmanship, and expect the same of their players. Coaches will communicate expectations clearly and openly to players and parents.
They will follow the rules of the league. They will abide by the same attendance commitment that is asked of the players.
